Polarization refers to the plane in which light waves oscillate. Normally, light waves oscillate in all directions perpendicular to their direction of energy transfer, creating unpolarized light. When restricted to a specific orientation, usually to a single plane, it becomes polarized light. Polarizing filters can allow only light oscillating in a particular plane to pass through.
