Tiant Pitches Game 1 of '75 WS

The great Luis Tiant is 83 years young today! This Cuban great gave up his homeland to pitch in the show, leading the Red Sox to the World Series in 1975. While Boston would ultimately lose that iconic series to the Reds, it was still a special one for El Tiante; his father and mother were at Fenway to watch their son win 6-0, a five-hit shutout. Granted a special visitation license, it was the first time his parents had seen him in almost 15 years. And his dad even threw out the first pitch! |
