This is a harmless Zambezi Blind Snake (Afrotyphlops mucruso), one of the larger blind snakes, which can grow to a length of up to 80cm. They are found all along the Kenyan coast and are quite wide spread in Tanzania. They mostly live deep underground, often residing in termite mounds where they feed on the eggs and lavae - surfacing after the rains. They use their hard beak to dig into the soil and produce a mucus which softens the soil. There is a myth in Kenya that these snakes have two heads

This incredible footage was taken by one of our associate snake handlers Ollie, while he was on a safari in the Mara Triangle. He was driving along a lugga and was just about to cross when he saw this impressive snake swimming down stream.
