The Manse background now provides dots x5 levels of Hearthstones and Manse focal points, with no Manse at higher level then the dots in this background. Manse focal points also produce level motes of Essence per round to all beings with an Essence pool.

Backing is a large, powerful background: a Backing rating grants you a free Resources, Followers, and Contacts background equal to one die less than your Backing background. These additional backgrounds can be bought up with bonus points of experience points in-game as if they were equal to their effective rating.

The system of Backgrounds in Exalted is a wonderful tool for just that, determining your character’s background during generation. However, they are also more than that –many of them measure and even affect in-game events.

Backgrounds range in potential rating from 1 to 10, and thus most backgrounds are expanded in scope, either explicitely or not. Charmed: Grants one Charm per level. Destiny: This is moved here because of the iffyness of players buying it. This functions much as the Merit in the Player's Guide does (level for level).
