2023年12月28日 · Hello this is my first post and my first Bonsai. I was gifted this "Kryptonite Japanese Maple" as a secret Santa gift. I have always wanted a Bonsai but never learned how to care for them so I never bought one. I have bought 2 books on bonsai care and I have been watching videos and reading helpful articles ever since I received this beauty.

2021年3月26日 · Tl;dr: i an trying to root japanese maple cuttings in summer and will post an update as there is no resource availlable on how to easily propagate this tree from softwood cuttings. I will post pictures if this gains interest and document the cuttings failure and success to put this matter to bed.

2020年6月6日 · Just because a bonsai book or the like is published, does not mean it’s good. After reading The Black Pine Master Steve Pilacik’s book, I promptly threw it away. I was slightly confused and very angry thinking of the number of trees affected by that book. My teacher had me fully defoliate a Japanese maple semicascade project four times a year.

2024年11月15日 · More experienced bonsai growers aspire to develop a maple that looks more like a really old Japanese maple tree with thick trunk, bends and branches with plenty of twigs and leaves. In this case, you can either grow as above and wait 30-40 years OR, as mentioned above, plant it into a larger pot or in the garden for 3-5 years to speed up growth.

2016年6月3日 · Last year I bought this landscape coral bark Japanese maple. I planned on trunk chopping, but I tried to make a couple air layers first. Both failed and I figured it was too late in the year to chop the trunk. So this year in ready to chop it down, but I'm not sure about the timing. It's already leafed out on most of the branches.

2010年12月8日 · If you want a great book just on Acer palmatum cultivars, get "Japanese Maples" by J.D. Vertrees. It lists/describes almost every type of cultivar currently grown, with great pics to boot. However, I think the word 'bonsai' is mentioned only once. If you want a book on developing maples as bonsai material, get Peter Adam's book.

2007年5月5日 · Bloodgood will make good bonsai but I don't see anything special here. You have enough better trees to spend your time on than this tree. Besides if you want to play around with Japanese Maples you know where to get the best ones for bonsai in the NW that will be much better.
