Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Collared Gray Wolf Activity Map will help inform the public, recreationists and livestock producers on where wolves have been in the past month. There are now 29 gray wolves in Colorado. As always, this number can change at any time if other wolves migrate to Colorado from other states.

Between December 18 - 21, 2023, Colorado Parks and Wildlife experts captured 10 gray wolves in Oregon and released them onto public land in Summit and Grand counties in a historic effort to create a permanent, self-sustaining wolf population and fulfill a voter approved initiative to re-establish gray wolves in Colorado.

Wolves were reintroduced in the northern Rocky Mountains in the 1990s and since at least 2014, solitary wolves have entered Colorado. A resident group in northwestern Colorado was confirmed in early 2020. In June 2021, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) reported that the first litter of wolf pups had been born in the state since the 1940s.
