2000年6月6日 · The core would be exposed in the sanding. Also, trying to cut out a tight fitting box channel and inlay square wire in wood would require superb skill. An alternative to gold would be brass, but I would either use gold or silver wire. BTW, I use gold wire for the "berries" in my inlay work, and silver for the vines most of the time.

2015年7月19日 · The link is for 20 gauge square wire, which won't work for inlay. You want ribbon wire (flat wire). Normally, you get wire about 2-4 times as wide as thick. 24 gauge (.5mm) by 2mm works well. For thicker lines, us 22 gauge by 2mm. Here are two threads where I gave some info on doing inlay. I have a tutorial I wrote somewhere.

The idea behind the wire inlay is that after you have "pushed" the wood grain aside, when you wet it back up, the grain in curly maple will swell back to its original size and "grab" the wire. Some walnut is conducive to wire inlay. I also think there's a small amount of tradition involved here as well.
