Terry Davis was a schizophrenic programmer that was so paranoid about the CIA placing backdoors in the Linux kernel, C compilers and external dependencies that he created his own programming language, compiler, operating system kernel (written in the language he created) and Graphics Library without any external dependencies.

I was reading about Terry A. Davis' case but I can't manage to find any detailed information about his diagnosis. Some sources mention schizophrenia, others schizoaffective disorder (like this donation page) but these are different diagnoses with different implications. Sorry if off-topic.

Writing a programming language, an OS, and earning a masters in Electrical Engineering are not easy tasks, but Terry did all three. I really wish he was still with us and got the help he needed.
