2025年1月27日 · Golden monkeys are attractive, endangered primates with patches of orangey fur, hence their name. Happily for visitors who have travelled to Rwanda to do a mountain gorilla trek, golden monkeys live in the same forest ecosystem. It is an Old World monkey found in the Virunga volcanic mountains of Central Africa, including four national parks: Mgahinga, in south-west Uganda; Volcanoes, in north-west Rwanda; and Virunga and Kahuzi-Biéga, in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. It is restricted to highland forest, especially near bamboo.

Akagera National Park is home to olive baboons and vervet monkeys, which can be spotted on safari drives. Other species can only be seen at night – the small potto, closely related to the lemurs of Madagascar, and bushbabies, with their distinctive large eyes for superior night vision, and bat-like ears to track insects in the dark.

Golden monkeys are a rare and endangered primate species found in the Virunga Mountains in Rwanda. The Golden Monkeys have unique yellow orange patches that make it easy for travelers to spot them as they play, run and jump within the tree branches.
