2024年8月1日 · Cool castle with a stunning view. Worth a visit! Moderately steep hike up the road or trail to the entrance, with a minimal entry fee and small museum with artifacts and history. Walk around the ruins and get all the views! We got there pretty close to closing time, but still had a nice visit. Staff were helpful and spoke good English.

Rheinfels Castle was built in 1245 by Count Diether V von Katzenelnbogen as a customs castle for ships traveling up the Rhine. Within a short space of time, the count expanded the castle into one of the strongest fortifications in the Middle Rhine region.

Rheinfels Castle can be visited. The castle is open daily from 9am to 6pm (closing time 5pm) during the summer months. Please also note the opening times in the winter months. The castle remains closed on snow and ice.
