2018年3月29日 · I have quail supposed to hatch tomorrow and they will be my first hatch ever, I'm pretty excited. With the additional birds coming, I'm getting ready to build another cage. I have considered taking down the metal roof I built on this one and adding a 12ft roof to make more room for additional cages.

I wish to stack them as I have limited space, their roofs are sloping backwards and the entire roof opens.

Originally I planned to build the cages myself out of wood and wire mesh but now I am having second thoughts. I read up on forums here that a lot of people like rabbit cages for their quail.

2014年12月26日 · Quail are incredibly hardy and can survive brutally sub-zero temps as long as they can get out of the weather. If you keep your Quail in cages, you can either bring your birds into a shed or garage during the winter months or cover them completely with a heavy tarp during bad weather. Wind will suck the heat right out of your birds and kill them.

2019年8月30日 · I eventually capped the PVC pipes with some cheap ($0.49) test caps because the quail decided to get on top of the feeders and jump down into the pipes when the feed got low. The watering system is made of a 5 gallon bucket on top of the cage structure with poly hoses connected with hose barbs running to each tier.

2009年4月7日 · Cut each piece to size per your own design and you always have custom cages. You'll probably use some smaller wire for buttons. If you are handy in the least bit, you should have no problem building most small sized cages in less than an hour. The hardest part is cutting the wire. Some good heavy duty wire cutters make the job easier.

2018年4月9日 · I use straw in my cages. I have solid bottomed cages because of rats (for starters) and I have read of quail getting bumblefoot from dried poop on wire. It takes me two minutes to scrape out the old bedding and put some new straw in. They do like to 'help' ie: stand in the way the whole time.

2014年10月18日 · They walk on one layer and the other is a couple of inches below to keep things from grabbing their toes. Also, keeping cages elevated will discourage terrestrial predators like coyotes, cats, etc. as they would have to hang off the sides of the cages to try to get to them. My cages are about 3 1/2-4 feet above the ground.
