Phage was actually the nickname for the Xenophage, a giant predatory alien-monster that preyed upon symbiotes, but the name Phage stuck in the symbiote mythos. The symbiote (and his hosts) wasn't officially named Phage, until Carnage, U.S.A. #2, with Rico Axelson as host.

The symbiote that would later be known as Phage was one of five symbiotes created by the Life Foundation that extracted and incubated the "seeds" of the Venom symbiote in order to provide a comfortable life for their wealthy clients after the impending holocaust.

Phage is a minor antagonist from Marvel Comics. He is a yellow symbiote forcibly spawned from Venom, along with Agony, Lasher, Riot, and Scream. As of the Venom War Event, Phage was currently bonded to Carl Striklan, formerly known as "The Crippler".
