The National Defence University (NDU), formerly introduced as Army War Course (1963–70), [a] the National Defence College (1970–2007), is the military university of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan focused on military education and training for the armed forces, including Pakistan military forces and two hundred foreign participants. The Faculty of Contemporary Studies (FCS) at NDU offers admissions in BS (4 years), MS/MPhil (1.5 years min), and PhD (3 years min.) programs upon the availability of supervisor, seats, space, etc. The University is open to all persons irrespective of gender, religion, race, creed, color, or domicile.

The National Defence University was originally in founded in 1970 as Pakistan’s military training college. It was granted public university status in 2007 and today serves as Pakistan’s central institution for higher learning relating to matters of national security and defence.
