Sep 29, 2023 · It has adequate power for the trucks intended purpose. The manual transmission is much preferred, as the automatic is programmed very poorly. You will find that used trucks with a manual transmission command a much higher price than automatic trucks because of this. Note that the automatic transmission is reliable, it just has poor shift logic.

Feb 23, 2021 · Both are extremely reliable, plentiful, and not as pricey as japanese equivalents. Chevy makes good v8 motors but that's really it. A silverado 1500 would be decent and dodge is really sketchy if it isn't a diesel in my opinion. I would say try and rest drive trucks until you find something you like.

I’ve heard of the V8 GM trucks still having cam and lifter issues because of their displacement on demand systems. Toyota has a good reputation but are a bit pricier and their turbo 6 has had some teething issues. Nissan is alright but seem dated.

The big thing for me is the rest of the trucks hold up very well. All have the factory transmission. I personally prefer the solid axle over IFS, just seems tougher. Really doesn’t matter. My friend who runs GM HD gas trucks has done just as much work as I have to mine. I do not like how the dodge 2500s are made in Mexico.

Nissan and the GM twins &new Ranger as frame on trucks. Honda Ridgeline is good vehicle. But the answer is the one that is well maintained and had a gentle life. Better question is what do you need it for, because each has their strong points. Go back a decade or 2 and old Ranger and S10, but I wouldn't call them most reliable or safe.

Toyota is seriously the best built and most reliable-least the older ones were. Ford/Chevy is a toss up, then Id say Nissan, then Dodge on the bottom. Worked on or dealt with way to many issues on dodges to call them reliable. There is a large reason most fleets are GM or Ford as well.
