The Turbo Esprit retained the aerodynamic body kit of the Essex cars and featured prominent 'turbo esprit' decals on the nose and sides. The S3 gained the new larger bumpers but kept the simpler sill line and glazed rear hatch of the S2.2 body.

Known as the Series 3, the third gen Esprit saw updated bodywork, but largely retained the original Giugiaro design. The S3 was powered by a mid mounted 2.2L inline four engine. The introduction of the Esprit Turbo saw the first turbocharged variant of the Esprit.

2021年2月12日 · As per the Turbo, the S3 came with the big new bumpers that were a key aspect of Guigiaro’s latest Esprit revamp. It also featured the distinctive body coloured engine intakes mounted behind the rear quarter windows. What the S3 didn’t get was the Turbo’s deep front air dam, side skirts, aggressive rear spoiler or louvred engine cover.

The S3 proved by far the best Esprit to appear in normally-aspirated guise and original outline. Picking up on the Turbo chassis meant vast gains in torsional rigidity, while the suspension system were tailored to the car rather than unhappy legacies of either past traditions or adapted production components.
