Merchiston has introduced The Forest Nursery and Forest Junior School to meet the huge demand for alternative approaches and offer the very best formative early years of education. Set in our stunning 100-acre campus, The Forest opened its doors in September 2024 and features a holistic approach to development and child-centred learning.

Merchiston Castle School is an independent boarding school for boys in the suburb of Colinton in Edinburgh, Scotland. It has around 470 pupils and is open to boys between the ages of 7 and 18 as either boarding or day pupils; it was modelled after English public schools.

Merchiston is the only boys’ independent boarding school in Scotland, offers the English curriculum, and has a global, outward-looking dimension. We take pride in specializing in the education of boys and preparing them for the world, as we have for over 175 years, developing aspirational, and sensitive, yet gentle-men!

It is the junior division of Merchiston Castle School, an all-through school to age 18. Merchiston Juniors fees range from £6,190 +VAT (Junior 4) to £7,000 +VAT per term (2024/25). Full boarding fees are £10,380 +VAT per term. Merchiston Juniors has one class per year and an average class size of 16 pupils.
