North of Jefferson, Colorado, Jefferson Lake invites visitors to a pristine mountain setting within the Pike National Forest. The Jefferson Lake Recreation Area is popular for fishing, camping, or simply getting some fresh air approximately 90 minutes from Denver.

The campground is located a short drive or hike from Jefferson Lake. The lake is one of the highest elevation lakes around, capping 10,685 feet elevation and bordered by steep 12,000 foot peaks. Fishing in both the creek and lake offer promising catches of trout.

Jefferson Lake – This recreation area features a slew of nearby campgrounds, though none directly on the lakeshore. Fishing is popular at the lake, as well as picnicking. Backpacking and day hike trails are accessible along the Colorado Trail, which passes through the recreation area.
