Every winter, SnowJapan publishes exclusive and independent snow and weather reports and official snow depth data for ski areas throughout Japan. Our exclusive reports come to you directly from popular snow regions of Japan.

There are currently about 500 operating ski areas in Japan. They range from large, modern, interconnected ski resorts with modern facilities to tiny ski hills with old lifts, from resorts increasingly popular with international visitors to gentle slopes only visited by locals.

So, yes, more snow to report this morning. Some lifts still affected by weather stuff including the top lifts at Happo-one and Tsugaike. Goryu is still 'preparing' lifts, too.

For most ski areas in Japan, the season generally starts in mid to late December and ends around late March or early April. Seasons dates, of course, depend on the region, individual ski area, and snowfall in any particular year.

The atmospheric pressure gradient is flat. The weather on the Sea and the mountains is calm and clear. The slopes have been softly reset by yesterday afternoon’s snowfall. Test results and other data shows that the avalanche risk is low today. All gates are scheduled to open.

My clear preference is for lots of snow, all the time, so I get a bit grumpy when that's not happening. But that's just me. Non-powder skiers are more than happy.
