Kristalina Georgieva has been serving as Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund since October 1, 2019. In April 2024, the IMF’s Executive Board appointed her for a second term, which started on October 1, 2024.

On 29 September 2019, Georgieva was named managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), to succeed Christine Lagarde (who was leaving to become President of the European Central Bank). Kristalina Georgieva is Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund. She was previously CEO of the World Bank (2017-2019) during which time she served as Interim President of the World Bank Group for three months.
