Dolls have always been a part of humankind, found in Egyptian excavations, and in Greek and Roman children's graves. Dolls and history go hand in hand, so is my intention with this blog to convey my passion for the dolls of the Renaissance, and the 19th and early 20th century.

Archaeological evidence indicates that antique dolls have existed since prehistoric times, making them the oldest toys ever discovered by humans. Ancient Egyptian wooden paddle dolls, Roman ivory statues, Native American wooden dolls, and African clay dolls are just a few examples.

Some of the so called Queen Anne dolls of wood covered over in gesso with cloth joints are really Georgian dolls from the early 19th century. There were also dolls of cloth, and various native materials like leather and cornhusks.
