Most of the times the cache is hidden in a grassy area, in trees, at play grounds, ball fields and such. Geocaching can lead you to a lot of searchable sites.

I know I miss good targets, but that doesn't concern me since I hunt the same areas over and over (different directions, different coils, different machines, etc..).
