The original high crosses, including the magnificent 10 th century Cross of the Scriptures are on display in a purpose built visitor centre adjacent to the monastic enclosure. An audiovisual presentation will give you an insight into the history of this hallowed space.

There are ample amount of operator who provide guided trips and self-cruises. It’s here at the Visitor Centre where you can purchase tickets for guides around the site.

In this story we will find out how to enter the visitor centre and what we will see and do on our visit. You can get to Clonmacnoise by car, bus or boat. The car park and bus park can get very busy so please make sure to stay with your family or group. This is the entrance we will use to visit the visitor centre and monastic site.

There is an architecturally attractive visitors’ centre with a well presented audio visual show, friendly and helpful staff and an interesting indoor exhibition. The centre is open all year round with shorter opening hours in the winter months until 5 p.m. and longer opening hours in the summer until 7 p.m.
