For whatever reason after Allen Bestwick injured himself playing hockey in 2004 or 2005 they just kept Weber as the main commentator, I always assumed he played politics just to keep himself there and that's why he chose to stay at TNT instead of going back to ESPN with Dave Burns and Allen Bestwick.

2025年1月27日 · Like the person in that last tweet alluded to, Bill Weber was one of the NASCAR voices of my childhood. Hearing him in those classic clips with Wally Dallenbach, Benny Parsons, and Kyle Petty brings back some fond memories. Thanks for the entertainment, Bill. Rest easy.

2019年2月24日 · Man, I miss Bill Weber a lot. He’s a huge reason why I always wanted to get into broadcasting. Granted I write better than I speak so I’m in journalism instead, but I miss him every day. I wish he’d do something in broadcasting again. It would make it so enjoyable for me. I’m bummed that ten years have not been too kind to him.

2020年11月30日 · Bill went gunning for the booth position and possibly spread a few untruths about Allen looking for opportunities elsewhere. Not sure how truthful all that is, but I am certain that Allen with his leg problems didn't go to management saying "You know, I'd really rather walk/run up and down pit lane for 6-8 hours on race day."

2020年3月19日 · Apparently Weber was well known for going hard in the paint the night before the race and had made a fool of himself that night. In the morning, must’ve been a result of a bad hangover as he went to town on the hotel worker and could not have done it in front of worse people (some higher up nascar folks).

This is an unpopular opinion, but while I do agree Weber never should've become the full time play by play announcer (just because Allen Bestwick got injured and missed two races), he actually sounded decent as PBP in 2005. Then NBC announced they were leaving NASCAR in 2006 and that's when Weber's quality starting going downhill year by year.

2018年5月23日 · Plus execs liked that Weber would say “on TNT” or “on NBC” as his “green flag” call. So he ended up with both the pre-race hype role and the play by play gig from 2005-2009. Edit: actually he lost the pre-race gig to Marc Fein after Fein was replaced on their baseball pre-game by Ernie Johnson
