It’s a harsh answer to give, but its one given in the light of our modern context. Apocalypse Now was released in 1979 (almost 50 years ago), and even beyond considering larger budgets, better editing tools, etc. that films have today, Apocalypse Now has a hard time holding relevance because of the narrative it tells.

2023年3月12日 · For years I thought Apocalypse Now was overly drawn out, tangential nonsense with Marlon Brando talking about snails crawling along a twig for 20 minutes at the end. That’s because I had been (I think incorrectly told) that Redux and Final Cut were better than the Theatrical Cut. Theatrical is a lean, mean heavy weight champion of war movies.

2023年2月5日 · The Redux cut was my first viewing of Apocalypse Now so I have some bias in favor of that cut, but I will try to detach from that in my brief analysis. From a film criticism standpoint, I can agree with most when it is asserted that the theatrical version is the best.

2022年6月4日 · I've watched Apocalypse Now! for the first time a few days ago( The Redux Version from 2001, which is 3:15h long) and I think it's overwhelmingly boring for the better part of it. It's pretty interesting in the beginning but as soon as they get the boat from Robert Duvall it's just two and a half hours of boredom for me.
