I m having the same problem, using a flat screen monitor with my Acer laptop (the laptop monitor is broken so I have to use the other screen). Microsoft as usual issued a new version of Windows before fixing lots of obvious problems.

I have previously been using nvidia controlpanel to force it to strech the aspect ratio through display settings, but these are handeled by the integrated one now and thus do not appear in nvidia controlpanel. In PowerPoint 2016 for Mac, it's already the default. 2011 was created before Microsoft made the switch to widescreen (13.333" x 7.5") format as the normal aspect ratio. So upgrading would solve this issue. You can create a presentation with your preferred slide size and set it as the default.
