Saona Island (Spanish: Isla Saona) is a 110-square-kilometer (42 sq mi) tropical island located off 1.5 miles (2.4 km) off the south-east coast in Dominican Republic's La Altagracia province. It is a government-protected nature reserve and is part of Cotubanamá National Park. [1]

It’s a two-hour catamaran trip on gentle Caribbean waters to the island with food, drinks, and dancing, or a 30-minute speedboat if you’re pressed for time. Visiting Saona Island is best done as part of a tour that includes snorkeling and a stop at the waist-deep Blue Lagoon, where you will be able to see starfish.
