The Payson Ranger District is located on all four side of the town of Payson, and continues north to the Mogollon Rim. It consists of approximately 450,000 acres (approximately 182,000 hectares) of Chaparral, Pinyon-Juniper, and Ponderosa Pine types of vegetation.

The Mogollon Rim Ranger Station is located in the Happy Jack, Arizona. This Ranger District covers the Blue Ridge area, north of the Mogollon Rim and south of Mormon Lake northeast of the town of Strawberry, Arizona

Black Mesa Ranger District is the westernmost ranger district on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. Located only 2 1/2 hours from the Phoenix Metro area, the district is a popular destination for residents of the valley looking to escape the summer heat.

Wilding permits, which authorize collecting live plants and trees from National Forest lands for personal use are available at the Coconino National Forest Supervisor's Office, the Flagstaff Ranger District, and the Mogollon Rim Ranger District.
