What happens if a cobra bites you? They have short fangs in the front of the upper jaw and strike downward, followed by chewing. Their venom is mainly neurotoxic but it can also harm body tissue or blood cells. If a cobra bites you, you can die from paralysis of the heart and lungs very quickly after the bite.

What should you do if you encounter a cobra? Try not to engage sudden movements that might startle or trigger the snake alert and give them space. Most of the time, they are not meant to attack you, might flee or move away if they come into contact with human beings. Move away slowly in the opposite direction.

When threatened, king cobras have several defense mechanisms. They are able to raise their hoods and make a loud hissing noise to intimidate predators.
