Paul Shuey was a very good set-up man for Cleveland from 1996-2002. But in save situations, he was 23 for 42 (54%). A good closer converts at least 85%. Shuey had a strong arm. He was a solid reliever. The closer role was not for him – or most relievers.

The Cleveland Guardians are still waiting for Emmanuel Clase to regain his usual form. Clase allowed three runs in the ninth inning against Pittsburgh on Sunday for his second blown save of the season,

Give Vogt the full compliment of good relief arms and encourage him to take some of the pressure off of Clase by not asking him to close every night, at least until he fixes some of his other issues and can breathe a little easier. This isn’t removing Clase from the closer role - this is recognizing his workload and the need to work on some things.
