Full moon brings out ‘unicorn’ in national forest in Arizona An unusual figure appeared on cameras at a national park in Arizona during the full moon last month, park rangers say.

This creates a rainbow or halo effect around the moon. The lunar corona feature several concentric, pastel-coloured rings and a central bright area called the aureole.

About 11 o’clock, when the moon was well up in the southeast sky, the rainbow appeared in the northwest, where a thunderstorm was in progress. The prismatic colors were fairly distinguishable.
