A Massachusetts police department will increase the presence of its officers on Wednesday as it searches for a 4-year-old boy who went missing in a nearby river over the weekend.

Local police and numerous other agencies were searching for a missing 4-year-old boy. He was last seen in the Merrimack River on Saturday, according to a Lowell police statement. Police and firefighters received a 911 call reporting that the boy was in the water by the Western Canal in the area of 300 Arcand Drive and the Merrimack River in Lowell at 5:44 p.

According to a release, a "preliminary indications are that the boy was quickly pulled by the current into the Merrimack River."
