Foods that contain petroleum-based dyes are usually ultra-processed and, as a result, they have food labels. These dyes are usually listed on the ingredient label, typically near the end, with names like “Red 40,” “Yellow 5,” or “Blue 1.”

The Trump administration plans to take action to remove artificial food dyes from the nation’s food supply, according to a media advisory sent by the US Department of Health and Human Services on Monday.

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and FDA Commissioner Marty Makary said on Tuesday that the agency plans to remove synthetic food dyes from the U.S. food supply by revoking authorizations of some and working with industry to voluntarily remove others.
