The Swiss government said Friday it would negotiate with the United States to try to avoid the tough 39-percent US tariff rate that would harm key industries.

Taiwan President Lai Ching-te said on Friday that the new 20% tariff rate set by the Trump administration on goods imported from the island is "temporary", and the government expects to negotiate a lower figure.

"We have small margins," said Suparp. He said they could still manage with tariffs up to 20% or even 25% by cutting costs.
