Protests against President Trump's deportation policies have divided Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill and across the country. Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, praised the President's decision to deploy the National Guard in California.
The Los Angeles Police Department has declared all of downtown as an unlawful assembly, telling all demonstrators to leave the area immediately. "Downtown Los Angeles has been declared as an UNLAWFUL ASSEMBLY. You are to leave the Downtown Area immediately," police said on X.
California urged a federal appeals court to leave in place for now a lower court’s order that would limit the Trump administration’s use of National Guard troops in Los Angeles to respond to protests over the president’s immigration raids.
The ‘quiet zone,’ a 1-square-mile section of downtown, seemed to be yielding positive results, with less chaos and property damage overnight Wednesday.
Customs and Border Patrol confirmed it is providing "aerial support" to law enforcement efforts during the protests.
