Sometime after that—after the Frank family had been found, after Anne and Margot died at Bergen-Belsen—the book ended up in an Amsterdam bookstore, and subsequently in this Dutch family’s home.

Anne’s last diary entry was Aug. 1, 1944, just three days before her family’s arrest. Anne, 15, and her older sister, Margot, died in March 1945, during a typhus epidemic at Bergen Belsen.
