Maryland LGBTQ opt-out case could have widespread implications for public schools nationwide if justices side with parent petitioners.

The Supreme Court will decide whether parents have a First Amendment right to opt-out their children from the reading of LGBTQ-themed storybooks in public schools.

Today, at least four of the six conservative Supreme Court justices seemed open to upending years of precedent and ending the longstanding tradition of local school boards. Instead, they seemed inclined to allow the judicial branch to step in and force public schools to provide opt-out options to parents who object to LGBTQ books.
