Joe Willock bagged a brace as Newcastle United battled back from a goal down after 40 seconds to beat third tier Birmingham City 3-2 at St Andrew's on Saturday and reach the English FA Cup fifth round.

But the roof came off in the main stand when Tomoki Iwata sent a scorching goal past Nick Pope five minutes before the break. There were just eight minutes left when Newcastle grabbed the lead as Tino Livramento freed Sean Longstaff and his cut across the face of goal was fired through the legs of the keeper to make it 3-2.

Alan Shearer, Newcastle’s record goalscorer, called Wilson a “six-yard player,” on the BBC’s television coverage which was very much a compliment. “That’s nothing wrong with that, it’s a great skill to have. He’s alive and quicker and gets there beyond anyone else. He’s brilliant at that.”
