A manatee rescued from the Tar River earlier this month is the first documented live manatee rescue in North Carolina’s history, the state’s Wildlife Resources Commission said.

So the team packed up the SeaWorld Rescue boat (a flat-bottomed boat specifically designed for manatee rescue), hitched it to a truck and made the eight-hour drive to Alabama.
The manatee weighs about 855 pounds and measures almost 9 feet, according to SeaWorld. SeaWorld Orlando’s Rescue Team took the manatee to Florida for further care.
