Jesus is the Good Shepherd because of His concern for the sheep − “I am the good shepherd; I know My sheep and My sheep know Me” (vs. 14).

Jesus is not a hired hand, He is the Good Shepherd. He knows who His sheep are and will never let them out of His sight. He can be trusted fully because He is fully trustworthy.

The Lord Jesus highlights the voice of the shepherd. The sheep can trust him and accompany him because they know his voice. He is known to them. In contrast, the sheep do not follow a stranger.
