At least one person is dead and four others seriously injured after two traffic crashes in Jefferson County and Washington County on Friday evening.

The pilot reported a malfunction and declared an in-flight emergency. An Air Force F-35 fighter jet crashed at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska on Tuesday as the pilot ejected safely, officials said.

According to the data, there were 727 crashes in 2022 on that stretch of I-35. In 2023, crashes dropped to 701, but in 2024, crashes went to 858, a 22% increase from the previous year.
