1980 - For the 50th tree lighting, a 70-foot-tall (21.3 m) Norway Spruce came from the grounds of the Immaculate Conception Seminary of Mahwah, N.J. Bob Hope participated in the lighting.

This year's tree was transported from West Stockbridge, Massachusetts. It's the first time the tree has come from the state since 1959. It arrived in New York City earlier this month, on November 9.
