Joseph Woll was outstanding in making 38 saves and Steven Lorentz scored short-handed early in the third period as the Toronto Maple Leafs topped the Colorado Avalanche 2-1 on Wednesday night.

The Colorado Avalanche have been playing well lately, needing every point they can get in the race for the second seed in the Central Division. They have won seven of their last eight games, the only blemish being a shootout loss to the Minnesota Wild.

At 6:02 into the game, both teams were penalized when Artturi Lehkonen and Matthew Knies exchanged fouls. The officials sent Lehkonen to the box for elbowing, while Knies was admonished for high-sticking. This resulted in two minutes of 4-on-4 play. A similar situation would also occur later in the game.
