Lucius, 21, was one of the organization’s most promising young players. The Jets selected him with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2021 NHL draft after the Kansas native came up through the U.S. National Team Development Program and played briefly at the University of Minnesota before joining the AHL’s Manitoba Moose.

Chaz Lucius, a 2021 first-round pick of the Winnipeg Jets, announced his retirement Tuesday as a result of a hereditary tissue disorder. Lucius played for the Jets' AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose, this season.
