Florian Wirtz knows what it is to be a wanted man. For many young footballers a summer where three of Europe's leading clubs (briefly) fought it out for his services might be enough to have their head spinning.

Arne Slot has made Wirtz, 22, his top transfer summer transfer target as he looks to strengthen a Liverpool squad that won the Premier League last season. Wirtz is rated as one of the most talented players in Europe, having made close to 200 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen and earned 30 caps for Germany.

Liverpool have lodged a bid of €100 million (£84 million, $113.7 million) to sign Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz, it has emerged.
