According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Toronto Maple Leafs and veteran forward John Tavares are close on a new extension, with some finer details all that needs to be done.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are closing in on a three-year extension with John Tavares, according to NHL insider David Pagnota.

That changed on Saturday as The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta reported that Tavares and the Maple Leafs have agreed to a contract extension for the Mississauga native to stay put in Toronto. While not yet officially announced pending "some finetuning," the deal is believed to be for three years at an average annual value of around $7 million.
