The flag of ousted dictator Bashar al-Assad's regime remains the standard emoji design across most, if not all platforms. But a new flag flies over Damascus and the rest of a now-free Syria.

When Syria’s new interim prime minister, Mohammad al-Bashir, chaired a Cabinet meeting in Damascus on Tuesday, hanging behind him was the flag of the country’s suddenly victorious opposition.

The symbolic raising was the first time the U.S. flag had flown above Damascus since Washington shut down its embassy in 2012 in response to violence that eventually killed over 650,000 people.

Syria’s army entered rebel-held parts of Daraa city on Thursday, state media said, raising the national flag in the cradle of the uprising that sparked the country’s seven-year war.
