An olive-colored snake that was kept in captivity for 20 years has revealed a magnificent discovery which led to the identification of a new species.
The analysis showed that some of the snakes from Ethiopia were genetically distinct. Researchers realized they’d discovered a new species: Boaedon broadleyi, or Broadley’s African house snake.
New species are being discovered quite often, but those discoveries aren't always made in the same way. This snake, for example, has quite the strange story.
