Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket announced major new changes to its trading system, highlighting one of the ways it differs from Pokemon Go for fans.

The development team has made a sudden and impactful announcement regarding trading in Pokemon TCG Pocket, which will go into effect by the end of Autumn 2025. This includes the complete removal of trading tokens, shine dust taking its place as the trading currency, the ability to select cards you want to trade for, and more.

The controversial currency used to trade cards will be replaced with a currency players have been earning since the game came out.

Pokémon TCG Pocket ’s developers say they will scrap the unpopular Trade Token currency in a sweeping update to how cards can be traded in the popular mobile game. A full update on the state of trades in Pocket was posted to the game’s forums early Friday morning, though the changes won’t be coming to the game until “the end of autumn 2025.”

As shared on Pokemon's official site, trade tokens will be completely removed from the game by this fall. In their place, shinedust will now be the currency used to trade cards. Any trade tokens that remain in players' collections after the switchover will be converted to shinedust.
