A total of four Chinese research and survey vessels in the Indian Ocean Region has been detected by the Indian Navy P-8I long-range maritime patrol aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).

The vessels were to be acquired through funds set aside in the National Corporation for Development (CND) and General Revenue and were expected to be delivered by 2025.
