The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency board approved a $212 million contract earlier this month to develop a new control system for the Muni Metro light rail trains by 2028.

Beyond the floppies, though, the Muni Metro needs many more upgrades. The SFMTA plans to spend $700 million (including the $212 million Hitachi contract) to overhaul the light rail's control system.
